Tips for Coming up with a Fictional Village Name

Here are some tips and tricks.

I understand how difficult it is to come up with fictional names for a village. I regularly get hung up on completing certain sentences or paragraphs even after years of blogging. Sometimes you can get stuck. Often your time would be better spent writing the central parts of your story.

But the naming process doesn’t need to be this that hard or require days of contemplation. With the proper guide, you’ll be able to think of a fictional name that’s completely original. Here are some tips you can do to make the thinking process easier:

Pick from a list of adjectives that you can use to describe your village. Is the village rich? Then you can try with “Golden Village”. If it’s poor, an example would be “Dingyville”. Is it colorful or bright? Try “Rainbow Hills”.
Get creative. It doesn’t matter if the name doesn’t sound correct. It gives off a foreign feel to it such as “Lorhk Village” or “Senluox Village”.
Old world or traditional descriptive words. For an old fictional village, you can use the word “old” in the beginning to describe it and then use names related to nature like “Old Town Sycamore” or “Woodland Village”.
Look at a map. If you have a story that’s set in a mythical town in Argentina, look at a map of the country. See what the different towns and cities are names and try to come up with something that sounds similar.
