A luxury brand is not just a product or a price range, but rather a philosophy in which a brand’s core values are intimately linked to the producer’s commitment to aligning quality perceptions with the ideals and aspirations of its customers. The term “luxury goods” is frequently used interchangeably with “better products.”

A luxury brand therefore is defined by its target clientele, not by its products. You could sell high-end ice cream, bottled water, or hand bags and still fit into this category.

Consumer perceptions of luxury brands and products shift over time, but three key variables appear to be at work: (1) a high cost, particularly in comparison to other brands in its category; (2) limited quantity, in that a brand is not always expensive, but it should not be easily accessible, having contributed to the customers’ perception that they have anything special; and (3) celebrity endorsement, which can make a brand or specific products more attractive to consumers and thus more “luxurious” in their thoughts.

If your brand fits the criteria above, here are more than 500 name ideas that you can use to elevate your brands perception among consumers.

Examples of Luxury Brands

If you sell a luxury product, your marketing and branding must reflect this. CEOs, consultants, managers, and scholars in the last forty years have been paid handsomely to provide their input on the branding. Here are some of the top luxury brands known around the globe that you can evaluate as part of your research.

Tiffany & Co. Popularly known as Tiffany, this American jewelry brand was recently acquired by the French luxury group, LVMH, better known as Louis Vuitton. Tiffany has a strong social media presence, particularly on Instagram, where it is quick to adopt new features in order to engage with young wealthy customers. Tiffany built its first official brand store on Kakao’s e-commerce platform earlier this year.

Louis Vuitton. The French luxury house Louis Vuitton, or LV, is owned by the giant luxury conglomerate LVMH. Sales climbed by 18% last year, making it LVMH’s greatest revenue generator of brands. With a brand value of $47.2 billion, the fashion house ranks first in Forbes’ most valuable luxury brands index. In 2020, 12% of Louis Vuitton’s sales were made online (up from only 6% in 2019).

Prada. Prada is an Italian luxury fashion firm that was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada and has since evolved to become one of the industry’s most recognizable luxury brands. Prada stepped up its digital strategy with online revenues more than tripling in 2020 compared to 2019. To further preserve its brand positioning, Prada made the strategic choice to control all distribution channels. Maintaining control over where your product is sold is important for luxury brands to maintain their exclusivity.

Consumer fashion companies often use luxurious brand names.

Hermès. Another private luxury house that grew in popularity online in 2021 was Hermès. Offline, Hermès has a solid China strategy and continues to enjoy top popularity of its timeless classics, such as the highly sought-after Birkin bag, which has extensive waiting lines.

Rolex. The Swiss luxury watchmaker ranked 80 on Forbes’ list of the world’s most valuable brands, with an estimated worth of $9.5 billion. As they do every year, New Rolex watch models generate the majority of online discussions about the brand. The ever-increasing resale value of old Rolex watches is makes it a valuable item among collectors. Many collectors view Rolex watches as a type of investment.

Cartier. To cater to a new generation of luxury buyers, the French luxury jewelry and high-end watch business continues to offer a combination of highly polished movies and timeless design. Cartier established Watchmaking Encounters, an online platform, to promote its new launches in the absence of a big watchmaking event in 2020.

Dior. Dior has experimented with a variety of digital initiatives throughout the years, demonstrating its dynamism as a top luxury brand online. In 2015, Dior was the first luxury company to market its products on WeChat Moments. Dior’s highly anticipated partnerships with streetwear icon Shawn Stüssy and Nike for the ‘Air Dior Capsule Collection’ only add to the French luxury house’s appeal among young generations of affluent consumers.

The luxury car sector is the most valuable within the luxury goods market, bringing in 503 billion Euros in 2020 due to well-known brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Bentley. Personal luxury items, the second most profitable sector, having expanded steadily over the last two decades. The United States is the largest market for luxury goods right now.

In 2019, the global luxury goods market was valued at $316.16 billion. If you offer a high-end product or service, don’t hesitate to charge more for a premium product or experience. There is a vibrant market for goods that fit this category.
