Food blogging is a complicated interweaving of “foodie” or gourmet culinary interests with blog writing and photography interests. A large percentage of blogs feature photographs shot by the author and some of them specialize in culinary photography. I know a lot of bloggers who got their start in their spare time and have transitioned into full-time content creators over the past few years.

Some forms of food blogging include food/restaurant review, recipes, food and travel (ethics and culture), and food photography. The blog you’re reading right now publishes content about food business mostly. Most food blogs have elements of all or some of these elements that overlap.

What I’ve found is that it’s not always the best food photo that gets shared the most online. More often than not, it’s an average photo with a clever caption that will yield the best results.

Don’t get me wrong. By capturing food in a well-lit, meticulously prepared setting, food photographers can generate a real audience over time. But more often than not, food with a funny description will perform even better if it’s shares and clicks you’re after. The majority of food bloggers I know make the majority of their income by running advertising alongside their content. The more visitors you can get to check out your blog, the more income you’ll earn through ads.

I still believe blogging is one of the most powerful marketing strategies a company can employ. Restaurants, catering firms, meal delivery services, private chefs, and other food and beverage enterprises frequently turn to influential food bloggers and leverage their following to promote their brands.

It’s critical for these businesses to select the market’s most popular bloggers, or “influencers.” Like all other successful bloggers, known food bloggers are able to attract a specialized audience and establish a name by producing high-quality content on a regular basis.
