YouTube has come a long way from its early beginnings as a simple video-sharing platform. Now, with the propensity for vlogs or video blogging this Google-owned platform has become a major money-maker for the company. In fact, YouTube generated $19.77 billion in revenue in 2020 alone. Revenue numbers are expected to grow even further in the coming years.

An estimated 44% of all internet users watch videos on YouTube, making it the ideal medium to document your travel adventures or cooking creations. And with more than 2 billion logged-in users every month, (not to mention the viewers not logged in to their Google accounts) YouTube is a robust platform to host a travel or food vlog.

How many page views do you need to get paid on YouTube?

YouTube creators are paid based on watch time.

Vloggers on YouTube make money based on the number of viewers they have, how long people watch videos, and the demographics of those viewers. Before you can start earning, you’ll need to reach at least 1,000 channel subscribers and have accumulated at least 4,000 hours of watch-time over the preceding 12 months. Keep in mind these requirements can change at anytime.

Once you reach these two major milestones, you can apply for the YouTube Partner Program that allows you to make money from the Google ads that are posted in the videos.

If you have enough viewers and subscribers, you can also include affiliate programs in your income stream. Another option is getting a sponsorship from brands that recognize your influence. All that being said, most bloggers get their start making money with the YouTube Partner Program since that’s the easiest way to start making an income with the platform.

How much do Vloggers Make on YouTube?

Once you’ve reached the milestones required to join the partner program, you can earn money from viewers engaging with ads that are embedded into your videos by YouTube. Payment is per 1,000 views. YouTube takes a cut from this, so you can expect to earn around $3 – $5 dollars per 1,000 views. This may not seem like a lot, but keep in mind that some vloggers generate more than a million views each month.

The income potential here is unlimited, but does require hard work to make it pay off. Many vloggers publish consistently for years before making a full-time income.

You can get a cut of advertising revenue.

Payment for earning vloggers is made to what is known as a Google AdSense account, where your income is generated in your local currency, or in dollars if you prefer. The AdSense account is linked to your YouTube account and once you have received a payment, you can link your local bank account and transfer the money direct using online transfer. Payments are direct deposited into your account once per month.

You can also link your AdSense account to other money channels, such as PayMaya, Payoneer, PayPal, and many more so you can get paid any way you want.
