It’s a fact. Men wear and buy clothes too. If you plan to introduce a new line of men’s clothing specializing in active wear, sweat pants, or even accessories like ties or hats you’re entering a massive $100 billion per year industry in the United States. But with massive opportunity also comes major competition.

The men’s apparel industry is also a segment of growth for the industry. It’s expected that the market for men’s apparel is expected to rise yearly by 7.3% worldwide this year. Whether these clothing items are sold online or in retail stores, total industry sales are expected to grow either way.

If you’re about to begin your own clothing line business that’s focused on men’s apparel, here are 501 name ideas you can use to jump start the brainstorming process.

What’s a good name for a clothing store?

Here are some tips how to name your clothing store.

Like all other brand names, it would be best if your clothing store name makes it clear the products your selling in a split second. This is even more important if you’re selling apparel through an e-commerce website or Instagram where attention spans are limited.

For example, a name like “Urban Classics” clearly articulates the clothing store sells streetwear. Whereas a name like “Gentleman’s Street” suggests a clothing store which contains suits, ties and other formal attire.

Of course, not all successful apparel brands follow this rule of thumb. If you design clothes yourself, you can put your name or nickname so it’s more personal. If you noticed the famous brand names mentioned above, many use personal names as their brands such as Karl Lagerfield or Kenneth Cole.

No matter what naming approach you decide to use, it’s important the name isn’t too long. Long names are difficult to remember. They are also harder to display on signs or in online ads.

Here are some best practices when coming up with a distinct brand name for a men’s clothing line:

  • Hold a free form 15 minutes brainstorming sessions to come up with ideas. Don’t take yourself too seriously when writing down this list of words or phrases that come to mind.
  • Take notes of brand name ideas throughout the day using the record app on your iPhone. As you start thinking about the concept for your brand, you’ll get more ideas at the strangest times.
  • You can hire someone else to come up with name ideas on websites like Fiverr. You could invest under $100 to get a dozen or so well-crafted name ideas.
  • Search “name generators” in Google. There are literally hundreds of them available. These computer programs will mix and match words together to come up with name suggestions you’d never think about on your own.

With these ideas mentioned above, we hope you’ve been sufficiently inspired your brand name for a line of men’s apparel. If you’re willing, we’d love to learn about the clothing line you’ve got in mind within the comments area below.
