Facts about the Meat Industry
The meat business is a $103 billion industry. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics that as of May 2019, there were about 527,000 people employed in the meat industry, largely coming from slaughtering and the processing sectors. In 2017, the meat production industry yielded 52 billion pounds.
Thanks to the rise of plant-based meat alternatives such as Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods among the growing list of plant-based meat companies. Despite this, most of us still love our authentic meat products and continue to buy them despite the new guys on the block and the current pandemic which have ravaged the economy including the meat industry.
