What are the best ways to save money at Perkins? 

Here are some of the best ways to save money at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery. 

Senior Menu: Perkins typically offers a “55+ menu” with discounted prices for customers who are 55 years of age or older.

Kids Eat Free: Some Perkins locations have a “Kids Eat Free” program where children can eat for free with the purchase of an adult meal. This special offer is granted available on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at most locations.

Who owns Perkins? 

Perkins Restaurant and Bakery is owned by Huddle House, Inc. Huddle House is another popular diner-style restaurant chain, and they purchased Perkins in 2019 for $51.5 million. 

Originally, Perkins was founded by brothers Matt and Ivan Perkins in 1958. The brothers started their restaurant as a pancake house in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their goal was to create a restaurant that offered high-quality pancakes at affordable prices, all in a casual, family-friendly environment. Their commitment to excellent service and a quality product led to the business’s early success and eventual expansion.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery was sold to Huddle House due to financial difficulties according to the bankruptcy filing. Huddle House saw strategic value in the acquisition with CEO Michael Abt praising the Perkins leadership team for revitalizing the brand and expressing confidence that Huddle House’s resources and financial backing could further strengthen Perkins in the future.

Does Perkins offer gluten-free menu items? 

Perkins does have gluten-free items which are actually presented on a separate menu so you’ll find them easily. You don’t need to ask the staff if a menu item you’re eyeing is gluten-free, all you have to do is ask for the separate gluten-free menu and you’re good to go.

As a side note, while Perkins has a separate menu for their gluten-free items, they have admitted to not having a separate kitchen to prepare these items, making it possible for cross-contamination to occur.

What muffins does Perkins have? 

Some of the standard muffin flavors they might offer include Apple Cinnamon Mammoth Muffin, Banana Nut Mammoth Muffin, Half Dozen Apple Cinnamon Mammoth Muffins, Blueberry Mammoth Muffin, and Half Dozen Blueberry Mammoth Muffins. You can also find seasonal muffin flavors like pumpkin in the fall and cranberry orange in the winter. 

Perkins Restaurant and Bakery is known for its on-site bakery offering a variety of pastries, including muffins, pies, and cookies.

What coffee does Perkins serve? 

Priding itself as the perfect breakfast place, Perkins has stepped up its game by partnering with White Coffee to bring high-quality Arabica beans to be used for its coffee line. These beans which are 100% Arabica beans are medium-bodied roast with a strong aroma, flavorful taste, and rich notes. 

The partnership just started in 2022 but is expected to stay for many years to come. You can taste the coffee for yourself when you order a “Bottomless Pot of Coffee” at the restaurant.

How many Perkins restaurants are there in the United States? 

Perkins has come a long way from its small beginnings in 1958 to becoming one of the most recognized family restaurants in the Midwest. With a mix of both franchises and company-owned locations, Perkins enjoys a handful of active restaurants in different parts of the country. 

As of 2023, Perkins Restaurant & Bakery has 273 stores, with 48 of them located in Minnesota. This represents almost 18% of Perkins restaurants. US. Other states with a significant number of locations include Pennsylvania with 38 locations (14% of total), Florida with 30 locations (11% of total), Iowa with 22 locations (8% of total), and Wisconsin with 19 locations (7% of total).

The cities with the most Perkins locations are Minneapolis, Minnesota with 8 locations and Saint Paul, Minnesota with 6 locations.

Are Perkins locations open 24 hours a day? 

Before the health crisis there were some Perkins locations open 24/7. I used to frequent two of these locations in Grand Forks North Dakota in my college days. After the bars closed down around 2 a.m., the restaurants would be packed with partiers looking a meal.

I’m not aware of any Perkins locations open 24/7 these days, however. Perkins hours vary by location, but most locations are open from 6am to 10pm, 7 days a week. Locations may have different hours on weekends or holidays.

Are Denny’s and Perkins the same company?

No, Denny’s and Perkins are not the same company. They are separate restaurant chains with different origins, menus, and corporate structures.

Denny’s was founded in 1953 by Harold Butler and Richard Jezak as a donut stand called Danny’s Donuts in Lakewood, California. It grew over time to become a full-service, diner-style restaurant chain known for being open 24 hours and serving breakfast all day. As of my last update in September 2021, Denny’s operates thousands of locations across the United States and in other countries.

Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, on the other hand, was founded in 1958 by brothers Matt and Ivan Perkins in Cincinnati, Ohio. It also grew over time to become a well-known chain, famous for its in-house bakery and family-friendly menu. Perkins was acquired by Huddle House, Inc. in 2019.

Despite similarities in their offerings — such as serving breakfast all day — Denny’s and Perkins are distinctly different brands under separate ownership.

Does Marie Callender’s own Perkins?

No, Marie Callender’s does not own Perkins. Marie Callender’s, known for its pies and comfort food, began as a pie-selling business in the 1940s in Long Beach, California. The restaurant chain eventually expanded into a chain of restaurants and a brand of frozen foods.

Is the $4 – $8 menu still available at Perkins?

Unfortunately, the $4 – $8 menu is no longer available at Perkins. They introduced these deals back in 2017 and customers responded well to the deal. Sadly, you’ll can blame the rising costs of food and wage inflation for the increased costs. Due the increased costs of operating a restaurant, Perkins would be losing money on this type of deal in 2023.

The Perkins brothers’ business started to grow exponentially when they franchised their restaurant concept in the 1960s. In 1967, Perkins Pancake House merged with another restaurant concept, Smitty’s Pancake House, and the Perkins Cake & Steak was born. By 1978, the name had been changed to Perkins Family Restaurant, and in the 1980s, the company began to add bakery operations to existing restaurants, thus creating Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, the brand we know today.
