FAQs about the Cook Out Menu

What should you order at Cook Out?

Like lots of options? Cook Out has a large menu with more than 100 items that feel pretty overwhelming if you’ve never visited the restaurant. According to some estimates, you could create 54,000 different ordering combinations by mixing and matching menu items.

To give the newbies a heads-up, there are two ways you can order their food – either a la carte or by ordering a Cook Out Tray.

Cook Out Locations

There are more than 300 Cook Out locations in the South East.

Cook Out Tray

The Cook Out Tray is their version of value meals which is, of course, everyone’s favorite because you can get more food while paying less than you would a la carte.

With a Cook Out Tray, you get to choose from entrees like burger, 2 hotdogs, chicken strips, a barbecue sandwich, a chicken sandwich, or a quesadilla. You also get your choice of two sides and a drink (you can even add a milkshake to the meal for $1 more).

For the sides, it’s either french fries or a corn dog, onion rings, BBQ sandwich, chicken nuggets, hush puppies, cheese bites, a quesadilla, chili, or coleslaw are options. You can also get two orders of the same side if you prefer by stating you want to “Double Up” on a specific sides.

Crispy Spicy Chicken Breast Fillet

With all the craze for spicy chicken sandwiches from competitors like McDonald’s, Popeye’s, and even Burger King, it wasn’t a surprise that Cook Out made its own version and went in with the craze.

Chopped Pork BBQ

You expect nothing but the best from a Southern native such as Cook Out to have pork on their menu because their Chopped Pork BBQ is a fan favorite and a personal best for me.

Just because you’re at a fast-food joint doesn’t mean you can only order hamburgers, right? Well, that’s exactly why the Chopped Pork BBQ is a must-try for first-timers. You can have it just as a sandwich or with a full plate of fries, hushpuppies, and coleslaw.

Homemade Char-Grilled Hamburgers

Cook Out’s char-grilled hamburgers are made with fresh, never-frozen beef patties. Burgers are served on toasted bun and can include lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise.

If you’ve never ordered at Cook Out before there are also adds you can order with burgers. Here are the add options that can be added to burgers, hot dogs or quesadillas.

“Everything Add” is a popular option that allows you to add all of the toppings to your burger, including lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, bacon, cheese, grilled onions, and barbecue sauce. Simply tell the cashier you want the “Everything Add” to get this.

By ordering the Out West Style add to a hamburger, you’ll get grilled onions, bacon, cheddar cheese, and barbecue sauce. Request the “Out West Style add” when placing your order.

The Steak Style Add gets you grilled onions, mushrooms, and A1 steak sauce. Finally, the Cheddar Style add is a gets you cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and bacon. You can request any of these adds with hot dogs, quesadillas, or burgers.

Char-Grilled Hotdogs

While we’re talking about char-grilling food, the next recommended order is Char-Grilled Hotdogs. Cook Out uses all-beef hot dogs that are grilled to perfection and served on a soft bun with your choice of toppings and adds.

Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake

Milkshakes

There is always room for dessert, especially with Cook Out, you’re meant to make room for their dessert, especially their milkshakes because they are heaven-sent and only cost $3.19.

With over 40 unique flavors to enjoy, it might be a bit overwhelming when it’s time to order but take your time because you don’t want to miss out on what the best has to offer you. Some classic flavors available such as chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

Wraps

Want to change out your order a bit? How about exchanging a bun for a tortilla wrap? This option cuts out some carbs and is a convenient way to eat and enjoy. The wraps are filled with your choice of lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese.

My two favorite wraps on the menu are the Ranch Wrap made with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, and ranch dressing. A close second is the Club Wrap made with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, and mayonnaise.

Floats & Cheesecakes

Floats are fairly common in fast-food chains but cheesecakes? Not really! Which is a good addition if you ask me! The New York-style cheese packs in a punch with its delicious filling, which is the reason why I needed to include this in the must-order food in Cook Out.

Cook Out Social Media

Follow Cook Out on social media.

Since Cook Out has so many items, it makes the ideal restaurant to menu hack. Here are a couple options.

Cheeseburger layered with cheese bites and fries – Get your cheeseburger, take the bun off, layer some cheese bites and fries over it, don’t forget to add your favorite sauce, and put back the bun.

Order a cup of cheddar with your fries and burger – This is such a simple menu hack but adds so much flavor. Dip your fries in the cheddar and get ready to be taken to cheese fry heaven.

Should You Tip at Cook Out?

Tipping is not mandatory at Cook Out. Still, some customers like to add a tip to show appreciation for lower wage employees who make their food. At the end to the day, it’s your choice whether or not to tip. But there’s no obligation to do so.

Are there any secret menu items at Cook Out?

  • White Cheddar Cheese Bites
  • Mexi Dogs
  • Texas Pete and Cheddar Cheese

  • Walnut Brownie
  • Chocolate Banana Pudding

What is the difference between a big double and a regular Cook Out burger?

Can’t decide whether to get the big double Cook Out burger or the regular one? This revelation might help you!

Someone on Twitter decided to ask about the difference between the two and conveniently, a Cook Out employee saw the tweet and replied! According to the employee, the regular Cook Out burger is thicker and has a single patty, compared to a big double with two small (and thinner) patties.

Will Cook Out ever come to Florida?

According to a news report from April 2022, Cook Out has plans to open their doors in Pensacola, Florida. The company has submitted the project for approval to Escambia County’s Development Review Committee which will then move forward with the site plan approval and the building plan approval. Overall, this type of project usually takes at least 9 months to complete.

There’s also a petition on Change.org requesting a location come to Florida. The petition has been signed by more than 500 people. There’s more than one comment stating that Georgia is too far to find a location.

How many calories are in Cook Out fries?

Here are the calories for Cook Out fries. I love that Cook Out provides a nutrition table for all menu items here.

  • Large Fries: 694 calories (8.4 ounces)
  • Regular Fries: 347 calories (4.2 ounces)
  • Cook Out Fries: 465 calories (6.9 ounces)

How many calories are in a bacon wrap at CookOut?

With the word bacon, you can already assume there are going to be a lot of calories in Cook Out’s bacon wrap, right? Well, in every serving of 1 wrap (2.62 oz) there are 419 calories with a calorie breakdown of 59% fat, 22% carbs, and 19% protein.

Are there healthy menu items at Cook Out?

Unlike a few other fast-food chains, there are no healthy menu items at Cook Out but eating healthy is still a possibility. You just need to do a bit of scrutiny on their menu to find the healthy items!

First of all, choose among their char-grilled items such as Homemade Char-Grilled Hamburgers, Char-Grilled Hotdogs, Grilled Chicken BLT, and Grilled Cheese, to name a few. These are grilled so you know you’ve already cut down fats and calories on these orders.

Next, deep-fried items are a big NO. Cook Out has some salad options or fruit cup options for those who want to eat healthily, so choose those instead.

Their Double Quarter Pounder and Rivery City Chicken Club may seem enticing but definitely avoid these two as these usually have higher fat and calories in their ingredients.

So, while Cook Out doesn’t necessarily have a healthy menu items list, there is a workaround if you want to stay on track and avoid the obviously unhealthy choices!

Are milkshakes made with real ice cream at Cook Out?

The Cook Out milkshakes have a thick and creamy taste. But past employees say the milkshakes are actually made with a liquid milkshake and ice cream mix. The exact proportions of each ingredient are not known. Of course, most fast-food restaurants use this approach with soft-serve items including McDonald’s and Burger King.

Despite this the milkshakes are one of the most popular menu items you can order. Customers report that they are a great value and some of the best tasting milkshakes out there.

There are more than 40 possible milkshake flavors available, including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, banana, peanut butter, cherry and blueberry to name a few options. Considering you can pick up a milkshake for $3.19, it’s worth giving a try in my opinion.

What does double up mean at Cook Out?

If you’re like me who obsess over sides that come with my Cook Out order then you would be happy to know that they have what they call a “double up” on sides.

Double up at Cook Out means that you can get two of the same side item on your tray. For example, you could get two orders of fries, two orders of hush puppies, or two orders of quesadillas.

To double up on a side item, simply tell the cashier when you order that you would like to “double up” on the side. They will then give you two portions of the side item to enjoy for yourself or share with a friend.

Founded in Greensboro, North Carolina, more than 30 years ago by Morris Reaves. Jeremy Reaves is the son of Morris Reaves who is the current CEO. Apart from some newer stores, most Cook Out locations feature drive-thru and walk-up service only with no indoor dining area.

I’m sorry to say there are no senior, military, or student discounts available at Cook Out.
